The girls took second with only one returning varsity player. Younger players stepped up and helped the team earn the silver trophy.

After winning the 3A State Championship in 2022 and losing several key players to graduation and other pursuits, the Morgan High girls tennis team started the 2023 season with only one returning varsity player. Throughout the season, new and younger players stepped up and helped the team return to the podium again this year.

“We had such a great season! It's hard to believe it's over.,” said Coach Katherine Hadley. “We’ve practicing since the first week of June, and it is so rewarding to see the progression in each girls’ skills and play.”

She continued, “These girls truly care about each other and have fun together. It was one of the most team-oriented, cohesive, and kind teams we've had.”

Morgan scored 44 team points to Rowland Hall’s 58 to claim the second place trophy. 2nd Singles player Sophie Rabe won the individual championship.  Macey Dee at 3rd Singles advanced to the championship match and took second. At 2nd Doubles, Carys Morgan and Isabella Dickman also advanced to the championship match and placed second. Savannah Dutson, 1st Singles, advanced to the semifinals, and the 1st Doubles team of Willa Anderton and Kaitlyn Carter fell in the quarterfinal round.

“Despite having only one returning varsity player, we had an extremely successful season,” Hadley said. “The team took first place at both the Cache Valley Invitational and St. George Tournament. We finished second at the region tournament, missing first place by one point. Finishing 2nd in state is a huge accomplishment and shows the talent, dedication, and work ethic these girls possess. I am beyond proud of everyone on the team.”

Congratulations to the girls’ tennis program on an excellent season!
