Soccer advances to quarterfinals with an 8-0 victory over North Sanpete and a 7-0 win over Delta

Morgan Soccer took advantage of their home-field advantage in their first two playoff games winning both by shutout. Wednesday, Oct. 11 they beat North Sanpete 8-0 in the second round and then shut out Delta on Saturday in the quarter-finals.
With their fourth seed, the Trojans (13-4) will have to fight to advance to the finals at America First Field on Saturday. The team advanced to the semifinals against Canyon View Thursday, Oct. 19 at 1:00 p.m. As the No. 1 ranked team in the state, Canyon View earned a 17-2 record on the season and a 13-1 Region 12 scorecard. The Falcons’ two losses were to Stansbury, 0-2, in their third game of the season, and to Delta in Region 12 play, 0-1, Aug. 31. Canyon View defeated South Summit 9-0 in their first playoff game and beat Judge Memorial 1-0 last Saturday.
On paper against common opponents when examining wins and losses and goal differentials, Morgan matches up well with the Falcons. Morgan downed Judge Memorial 3-2 and beat South Summit 10-0 and 13-0 in their two games this year. Morgan shut out North Sanpete and Delta in their playoff games while scoring 15 goals. Canyon View fell to Delta 0-1 and beat them 1-0 in their second matchup, and against North Sanpete, the Falcons won 5-1 and 3-1.
Morgan’s only region losses on the season are against Ogden High, one of the other teams facing off in the other semifinal. No. 2 Ogden played No. 6 Juan Diego for a berth in the finals Thursday after Morgan’s game. The Soaring Eagle took out No. 3 Manti 3-2 in double overtime in the quarterfinals.
Coach Jesse Henderson shared, “The girls are in great spirits and peaking at the right time. We should do fine against Canyon View. I really like our chances.”
In the North Sanpete game, Lacie Poll recorded another hat trick while Kaydence Wardell added a brace. Macie Burton, Ashlyn Noss, and Kendall Petersen recorded a goal each. Wardell, Burton, Kapree Charlton, and Amy Thomas tallied assists. Keeper Miya Turner got the clean sheet.
Saturday, Oct. 14 in the quarterfinal match-up with the Delta Rabbits, Turner once again earned the shutout with two saves. Poll scored her third consecutive hat trick, and Burton added the brace this game. Kenzie Kendall and Petersen both contributed goals. Assists were by Poll, Wardell, Thomas, and Lily Evans. λ
