Wrestlers defeat Grantsville in Dual, 55-18

The Trojans traveled to Grantsville Thursday and took on the Cowboys in a Region 13 dual. Morgan came away with the victory 55-18. Friday and Saturday, the varsity and JV participated in the Rockwell Rumble, a tournament with almost 1,400 wrestlers from Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado, Idaho, and Wyoming. The Trojans’ Zak Sargent placed 7th and four wrestlers placed in the JV tournament.
The Trojans hosted 5A Wasatch on Wednesday and will travel south to the Enterprise Tournament this weekend. Next week Morgan will host Juab Wednesday for Senior Night on Jan. 24 and will travel to Kamas for their final Region 13 dual Thursday, Jan. 25. The dual at South Summit will decide the Region 13 Championship.
In the Trojans’ 55-18 victory over the Cowboys, all of the wrestlers won with bonus points. Seven wrestlers won by pin, two by tech fall, and one by major decision.
At the Rumble, Sargent (190 pounds) advanced to the quarterfinals on three wins by fall. In the quarters, he lost a 7-3 decision to Payson’s Landon Shurtleff. He came back in the consolation bracket with a pin over Brayden Evans from Beaver before losing a close 4-3 decision to Olympus’ Andre Leota. This loss put Sargent in the 7th Place Match where he won by a 4-3 decision over True Tobiasson of Fruita Monument (CO).
In the JV Rumble, Lance Toone (175) pinned his way to a first-place finish while Joseph Belinski (157) earned third, Carter Meibos (165) took fifth, and Nate Dotson (150) placed seventh. Meibos lost in the first round and then won seven consolation matches to put him in the consolation semifinals.
