Highlights from the Morgan School Board Meeting

Highlights from the June Morgan School District Board of Education meeting and budget hearing included congratulations all around.

There was praise for the most recent adult education graduates and GED earners. The board said, “We are really proud of every student who earns a diploma.”

A special thank you went to all the citizens and businesses of Morgan County who contributed to the Local Scholarships program: 105 students received $138,000 plus in total scholarships because of generosity. These scholarships will help graduates who are planning to attend either a traditional four-year college or a technical college. If one is interested in donating to this program, please visit https://www.morgansd.org/43764_1 for more information. Congratulations were also given to all the Class of 2022 graduates.

For the fourth consecutive year, Morgan High School has been honored as the Deseret News All-Sports Award Winner for 3A classification. Congratulations to the student athletes, their families, and all the coaches for efforts and support put forth.

In other actions, the board approved the Employee Salary and Benefits Schedules for the 2022-23 school year, the final district budget for fiscal year 2022 and proposed budget for fiscal year 2023, and the contract renewals for the superintendent and the business administrator.

Ongoing discussion includes teacher/staff retention, parent participation on committees, state-wide online education policy and requirements, daily attendance policies, and programs to assess and develop student literacy. Updates will be provided as policies are developed.
