MHS gets new assistant administrator

Lucas Thomas recently moved to Morgan and became a part of our community. Lucas shared his talents immediately by becoming an instructional coach at Morgan High School last year. He is now the assistant administrator at MHS for the 2022-2023 school year.

Thomas grew up in the small town of Vernon, Utah graduating from Tooele High School in 1999. He double-majored at Utah State University and graduated with a bachelor degree in History and Political Science. He also received a Master’s of Education from USU.

Lucas just finished his 16th year in secondary education. For the first 12 years he taught at Tintic

High School, seventh-twelfth grades, in Eureka, UT. He taught a variety of subjects, but mainly taught financial literacy and the entire social studies core at THS. He was the Athletic Director and head boys’ basketball coach for 10 years. He was also the head coach of the cross-country teams for eight years and coached a variety of other sports while at Tintic. After leaving Tintic School District, Thomas spent three years at Tooele County School District as a full-time Athletic Director and Assistant Principal. In the fall of 2021, he was hired as an

Instructional Coach at MHS, and after a year he was hired as the new assistant principal at the high school.

“As an administrator, you can make a difference in the lives of teachers and students,” commented Thomas. One of his goals is to help ensure every student has a positive learning experience in high school to prepare them for future success. He commented that he loves working with teachers and students.

Thomas met his wife while attending USU. They have been married for 17 years and together they have four children who have enjoyed living in Morgan since last fall.

As a family, they love the outdoors. Some of the activities they enjoy are hiking, snow skiing, camping, and horseback riding. Their children keep them busy participating in a variety of sports, music lessons, 4H horse shows, and the Jr. Livestock program.
